The Himalayan Writing Retreat is the home of two published authors - the founders of the Himalayan Writing Retreat. The place is custom built for writers and their ilk to find inspiration. The Himalayan Writing Retreat provides you the getaway from the incessant chatter of your life so that you can finally hear your own voice.
The better half of the two is Dr. Vandita Dubey, a US licensed Clinical Psychologist, and the author of the book “ Parenting in the age of Sexposure”. You can learn more about her here. The other half, Chetan Mahajan, is also a published author and a former business type who blogs about living in the mountains here. His blog won the Indiblogger award for humour. He is also a writing coach with the london based the writing coach.
The various workshops hosted by the Himalayan Writing Retreat are run by experts who are also great mentors. These specialists include Geeta Ramanujam for storytelling, Dr Arun Gupta for script-writing, Sumit Bansal for blogging, and many others.
For a place high enough to get winter snow, we're easy to reach. Fly to Delhi. Then take any of the following:
Road : The retreat is a 9 hours drive from Delhi, but can be longer if the traffic is bad. The nearest big town is Mukteshwar, which is 12 km by road from us. If driving, check if it is anything of importance in Hindu religion (Kawar yatra / shradh etc.). If yes, the road can be pretty jammed at Garh Mukteshwar.
Train : There are three trains a day from Delhi to the nearest train station, which is Kathgodam. Ranikhet is a convenient overnight train both way, but finding tickets can be difficult. Most people prefer to take the Kathgodam Shatabdi (Delhi dep : 6.00 AM, Kathgodam Arr : 11.40 AM). A cab from Kathgodam to Satkhol takes about 2.5 hrs / Rs. 1800. For events, this is often shared by participants.
Air : the nearest airport is Pantnagar. There are four flights a week from Delhi. A cab from Pantnagar to Satkhol takes about about 3.5 hr / Rs. 3000.
Our address is : Village Satkhol, District Nainital, Uttarakhand, India 263138.
